Fadila is 18 years old, and finished Junior High School at aged 15. She wants to be a teacher, but cannot afford to go to university. Girls in Northern Ghana are trapped in a cycle of poverty. Without an education and with little means young people are open to abuse, exploitation and violence. Girls are especially susceptible to early marriage, and teen pregnancy.
By giving a Rosh Hashana gift today, you can help ensure that young girls like Fadila access income generating projects and youth leadership development programmes so that they continue their education and grow into the next generation of leaders.
Over the summer, Tzedek brought 31 UK and 33 Ghanaian youth leaders together in a partnership to co-create unique summer camps for over 200 Ghanaian children, in a groundbreaking new programme for the Jewish community. Fadila, aged 18, has been in Tzedek’s Youth Leadership Training Programme for the past 6 months, learning new skills and gaining in confidence.
She says ‘I learnt so much in the training with Tzedek, so many skills that will help me with my future career. The best thing about the summer camp was learning new things from the UK leaders. The programme let us communicate with UK people, and improved our English and communication skills. I want to become a teacher in the future.’
Please support our Rosh Hashana appeal and help girls like Fadila have a bright future, full of opportunities, just like our youth have here in the UK Jewish community.
We need £6000 this Rosh Hashana to train 33 Ghanaian youth leaders and help them access income generating projects, so they can support themselves and their familes. Every gift you give will help.
