To celebrate 25 years of Tzedek, we were delighted to host our first ever Alumni Evening last week. Every year since 1995, Tzedek volunteers have worked with NGOs, schools and clinics in Zimbabwe, India, Kenya and Ghana. At our Alumni Event we celebrated that achievement and brought together a unique group of passionate supporters of sustainable development and Tzedek’s mission.
It was great to see so many of our former volunteers, including those who were with Tzedek in Zimbabwe back in 1995 and 1996, mingling with our 2015 Go Global volunteers who had only returned from their experience in Ghana a few weeks before.
We had the pleasure of hearing from our speakers, who shared with us some thoughts on their experiences volunteering with Tzedek, including Deborah Syme – who returned this year to visit the community she had volunteered with in Zimbabwe almost 20 years earlier.
Rabbi Benji Stanley, who volunteered with Tzedek in India in 2004, shared with us how his experiences as a volunteer helped to shape his vision of Judaism, and was a big factor in his decision to eventually become a rabbi.
We hope the evening was just the start of a vibrant Tzedek alumni network – watch this space for the next one!
