What brought me to Tzedek?

I’ve always been fascinated with the relationship between Jewish values, social activism and pursuing social justice around our world.

After growing up as a Chanicha (participant), being a Madricha (leader) and later becoming a Movement worker for Habonim Dror UK, and later spending a year working on education projects with socially and economically marginalised communities in East London, I wanted to understand more about global injustices, how to tackle issues such as extreme poverty, and how education could be used as a tool for development and social change in different contexts.

I moved to Burundi, East Africa in September 2014 to work as a youth empowerment project facilitator for Tevel B’Tzedek – an Israeli Community Development NGO. This experience taught me that development work was the perfect way for me to play my part in fighting for social justice and equality around the world, whilst also living by and expressing my culturally Jewish values.

This is what brought me to be the Ghana Country Director role with Tzedek.  I absolutely can’t wait to arrive in Ghana and help to bridge the gap between the UK Jewish community and Tzedek’s work in Northern Ghana. By raising awareness of Tzedek’s work, I hope to engage more and more of our community in pursuing the fight for social justice on a global scale.

What am I most looking forward to about being in Ghana?

Since I started to spread the news about my exciting move to Ghana, everyone has told me how notoriously friendly Tamalean locals are. I can’t wait to meet them and see for myself!
Other than that, I’m looking forward to meeting the elephants in Mole national park, sampling some local foods and learning to dance Ghanaian style.

3 Essential items I’m taking to Tamale:

A set of paints and paint brushes, and an I-pod full of my favourite music from around the world, and a kindle full of good books.

If I had to describe myself in 3 words:

Adventurous, nature-loving and determined!
